Below are some improvments that we'd like to see in Dead Rising 2. Discuss with other fans RIGHT NOW in our discussion forums about what you want to see in Dead Rising 2 and comment on other ideas and theories people have posted!

There's no arguing about it. Dead Rising was an excellent game, as it has already sold over 500,000 copies in the United States, two weeks after it's release. It's sure to do great over in Europe once it's released over there and we can all agree that Dead Rising was damn near perfect. Apart from a few flaws on Capcom's part that we'll address here, it definately was an excellent game in 2006.

Below is our list of what we'd like to see improved or added in the Dead Rising 2 sequel.

Interactive Environments
If you're familiar with an upcoming next-gen game called Stranglehold, you should be amazed because of all the detail in the destructable environments. The graphics are so detailed that you can practically shoot at any object and it'll fall apart. While Dead Rising does have quite a bit of interactivity, it isn't enough looking at the fact that it's on Xbox 360. This is a similar predicament to the GTA on PS2. The only objets that you can kick around and do things to are the ones that you can only pick up. The game is still fun, no doubt about that, but it would feel more authentic with destructable environments. Every game does not need this and most games are not capable but considering it's next-gen, it's time to improve on this, and one can certainly imagine. Think about having the ability to blast a shotgun at a hanging sign and having it fall on a Zombie? Sweet..

Controls
A problem that I faced as well as many other people is the controls, especially the combat moves. As the game progressed, it seemed harder to learn the moves, especially the lariat-spin. Some people also complain of the controls being awkward such as using the left stick to aim the gun, when people are used to the right stick to aim because of FPS games.

Bosses
The bosses that you didn't defeat the first time around turned out to be very easy when you get your power level to be higher, later on in the game. Thus, it only took a minute or two to figure out their pattern. In Dead Rising 2, there should definately be smarter AI, but of course, it depends on the skill level. After all, the game is about building up your skills and coming back for the things you missed.

Smarter AI
Everybody can agree that the AI for the NPC's were simply atrocious. Lets not deny it here. You probably gave up saving the survivors because they were too stupid. One thing that bugged the hell out of me was when you even equipped them with a weapon, they'd still run around like a headless chicken. Some of this is also true for bosses, and it definately takes away from the fun factor. Maybe Capcom should hire a programmer who worked on FEAR or Half Life 2 to improve in this field of category.

Where's the Multiplayer Support?!
Multiplayer wasn't really needed in Dead Rising as it was fun as is, but we can always ponder. The unlockables and new attainable skills certainly got us coming back for more. Think about in multiplayer where you'd be able to utilize all the survivors you save as characters we can play against. It'd be nice to have a mode where you just play as Zombies and have a Deathmatch.

Bigger Environments
The mall theme was cliche but it worked very well and it didn't get boring. It offered tons of variety and players were able to explore many things. However, once you start playing the game again and again, seeing the same scenary can get dull and annoying. Out of boredness, I even tried to jump off a building from the roof into the parking lot, but guess what? I couldn't. Even though we'd like to see Dead Rising be in like a GTA-quality map, lets be realistic. Just having a small town mixed in with everything would be really nice.

Load Time
There's no denying that in Dead Rising, there were a lot of long load times and it actually does take away from the experience of playing the game. After all, we have heard how next-gen can possibly eliminate load time while still having a great looking game. However, load time is based on things such as size of the environment, draw-in vs. texture and polygon quality. Dead Rising's graphics was much better than Saints Row, while there was still draw distance in Dead Rising. The problem again goes back to what I was saying about bigger environments. If Dead Rising turned GTA-style, the graphics wouldn't be as good, but load time would be cut down. Still, a better job can be done to eliminate the load time, as some next-gen games already have no load times other than the time it takes to load a saved game.

Too Much Like RE
If you're a fan of Zombie games, there's no doubt in my mind that you have played Resident Evil. It would've been more better and unique if Capcom didn't borrow the shooting-style from Resident Evil and produced their own. Some people like it like this, but others don't. The thing I didn't like about having it like Resident Evil is when you have to switch views and find the time to swing Frank around until he's facing the right way to shoot. It was even more annoying when you'd have to rotate the character to shoot a Zombie even when you're already facing the Zombie in the first place. They can either brush up on the shooting system, or they can use a targetted system like in many 3rd-person games such as Saints Row or GTA.

Small Text
Okay, how many of us have HDTV's? I sure as hell don't.. yet. The very small, but thankfully aliased micro text was very annoying! It seemed like they only wanted people with HDTV's to be able to follow the storyline, or people who wanted to go blind (if they weren't already) by sitting so damn close to the TV. While many people bursted out cries to fix this, Capcom just basically said "deal with it." Well, I hope they deal with it in the sequel.

The Save System
Aside from the small text, another thing people hated on the most was the save system. It's very disappointing when you're advancing in the game and then suddenly, when you have to go back since you're missing a case-file, you had to revert to the last save. In a sequel, it should definately be implemented that you can save whenever you want, or they should atleast strucutre the game to have unlimited save slots. The idea of only being able to save in the bathroom is fine, but honestly, why is it so hygienic in there?
